Tapa II PIA
PIA
Originally established in Tahiti, French Polynesia, Tahiti Art came into being in 1958. Recognizing the diverse potential of target audiences and eager to expand their reach to the global market, Pacific Islands Art Limited, now a subsidiary of Tahiti Art, was established in Fiji, a central hub of the Pacific Islands, in 2010.
Prior to the European presence in Polynesia, woven fabrics were nonexistent, with Tapa Cloth being the primary material. Crafted from bark, Tapa Cloth could be adorned through various techniques such as rubbing, stamping, stenciling, smoking, or dyeing.
Pacific Islands Art remains dedicated to preserving these ancient processes, keeping local traditions and techniques alive. The result is a handcrafted product imbued with centuries-old skills, each piece bearing its own unique identity that cannot be replicated.
Renowned for its vibrant and striking colors, the Pacific Islands Art Limited collection features an array of beautifully hand-printed garments, including sulus, men’s shirts, and women’s dresses. These pieces celebrate the rich heritage of the Pacific Islands, showcasing their distinct beauty and craftsmanship.
